sprite-news Events:

Following the success of Deep Salsa this Ocober here's another date not to be missed.
The NEW 'Deep Salsa for Intermediates' Salsa Rapido Intensive course.

This course is not and bunch of moves, styling or footwork. It’s for dancers who are looking to energise their salsa through looking at things in a different way. It uses models and exercises that you may not be familiar with, but they allow you to discover the underlying psychology and ways to change the way you dance if necessary.

Salsa Rapido® Method:
The ethos of Salsa Rapido is the same at all levels. It’s the Fast, Fun and Progressive approach to salsa. In other words I want to get you better faster, while having a heap of fun. If you think teaching should be a dry, boring or an authoritarian experience, be warned you’ll hate this! It's fun and challenging.

Are you intermediate?
My definition of an intermediate is someone who regularly dances freestyle salsa.
I’m the first to admit that’s a wide group of levels but I’m working on the basis that those who dance in clubs should know enough to lead/ follow and can operate at ‘club speed’. Improvers can handle the info but struggle to implement things as fast simply because they haven't had enough ‘real time’ dance floor experience.
If you’re not sure call me 07939012231

Itinerary:
11.30am -5pm at Salsa Soho, 96 Charing Cross Road,

i2i Musical interpretation salsa course at bar Salsa Soho!
Musical interpretation in salsa is a wide field. The aim is to interact with the music so that the dance finds a greater meaning.
In short if you interact with the music you'll feel better and have more fun! It's your best friend when you work with it and your worst enemy if you choose to ignore it.
There will be loads of salsa moves and combos to try but each exercise will highlight a point about the music.
So here's a brief outline of what's covered:

The course covers:
Salsa Timing how to get it and keep it.
Salsa Music the never ending debate - Historical time line
Salsa club sub genres (bachata, merengue, cumbia, son, etc...)
The instruments of a typical salsa band and their rhythmic contribution
The Salsa Rapido framework for musical interpretation ( how to use the music)
Please note:
This course wont be a bunch of Dos and Dont's, Interpretation is a personal decision and this course helps you to make it.
As ever this i2i Flavours course start with the essential Salsa Rapido Framework which makes this course a direct follow on from the 1-Day Intensive.

sprite-news News:

We are back at Gabeto this Tuesday
No really we are!
We didn't want a break, we didn't ask for a break but break we got one.
First it was the World cup, where needy multi million pound earning men do their thing. My favourite bit are the mono syllabic interviews.
Personally I'm sure England would have won if they hadn't been burdened with the guild of the gender pay gap in British sport!
Last Tuesday was a cock up of massive proportions. Moe's Flight delayed which ment further delays upon arrival. DeLarry was on Holiday and to cap it all there was an office party at the venue that over ran by several hours causing issues with the sound etc.
My sincere apologies to one and all.
Breath.
This week will be back to anything but normal with all three teachers.

Here's my recent review of a Bar + Block Kings Cross – Simply Great Steak

Within earshot of the buzz emanating from bustling Kings Cross station, on York Road, is Bar + Block. The buzz continues inside, as if London’s tourists, shopper and business types have paused for a moment for a drink and a chat at the bar before stepping back into the hussel and bussel of their lives.
We’re seated in the restaurant section behind the bar

sprite-camden  Welcome to Camden Salsa

The London Salsa venue right in the heart of London's Camden Market.
Salsa Classes and Free Dance every Tuesday.
Beginners start 7.15pm FREE 30min class
All other levels 8pm - 10pm see Blend Format.

Our Salsa Classes

At Beginners and Improvers level Alastair Sadler uses the Salsa Rapido foundation course method, which is the fast and fun way to master leading and following, with all the style and confidence you need to look great whereever you dance salsa..
At Intermediate and Advanced levels with DeLarry and Moe Flex there is a strong Cuban Casino theme.
I would like to add that our classes are fun but not slack, which means that class levels are maintained and we will politely "adjust" where necessary. A good idea is to come early and meet the teachers before the classes if you’re not sure.

History

Salsa Camden was launched on 12th Jan 2006 has become an essential part of the London Salsa scene providing Streetbeat’s usual high standard of classes plus that classic mix of friendly stylish clubbing run by adults for adults.
We're located at Gabeto which was originally The Cuban bar.
Salsa dancers will feel right at home here. It is comfortable and stylish whilst and of course the floor is wooden.

Our Salsa Music

Our music is produced by one the UK's top salsa DJ's, DJ Felicidad, sometimes real, sometimes virtual, she plays a genuine mix of classic salsa styles, from big band NY Dura to funky Cuban Timba, Romantica to Raggaton.
It's a smooth blend best described as classic mainstream salsa with a large dash of Cuban!

sprite-camden  Blend Format

What is Blend Format?
Blend Format blends the party and class creating an atmosphere of buzz. Fantastic to participate, engaging to watch.
Within an evening of two and a half hours e.g. 7.30pm - 10pm there’s 105 minutes of tuition fulfilling the needs of beginners through to advanced. This is presented in 15 or 30 minute sessions, Whole group active interspaced with Free Dance time.
There’s constant music and a buzzy mixing and mingling.
Come for the evening, stay for the evening, dance for the evening, socialise for the evening.

Why?
The world has changed!
Our classes are aimed at intelligent career minded people who want to wake up fresh the next day. More and more people respect the ‘not on a school night’ lifestyle. Blend means that dancers don’t have to sacrifice their free dance after the classes for an early finish, as a significant amount of free dance happens during the evening.

I’ve spent over twenty two years developing salsa teaching so people can learn quicker and better, so Blend has to offer real advantages for tuition.
The free dance sections allow techniques to be discussed, digested and practiced before another load of info arrives. After the free dance you’ll return to the session refreshed in mind and body :-) Finally the best way to consolidate what you've learnt is to free dance.

There’s no doubt that Blend is a long way from the traditional evening class format but I think you’ll find it a better learning experience, more fun and more social.
Enjoy :-) Alastair

sprite-camden  Beginners Instructor Alastair Sadler

Alastair Sadler has been teaching salsa since 1995 and has clocked up over 12,000 classes.
From the start he has developed and refined the progressive teaching method called Salsa Rapido.
Many of his projects have helped define salsa in the UK:
Salsa instructors forum (a workshop where instructors could exchange good teaching practice an ideas).
The One Day Intensive course (The world's first and most successful intensive course, still running weekly)
Salsa university (an all-dayer concept but weekly with 5 advanced classes in different styles)
In addition to teaching he runs The Streetbeat Salsa Co. and edited the Email Salsa News from 1999 -2007.
Salsa Camden - London's highly successful Rapido & Rueda venue where we ran the UK's first ever weekly Bachata course.
In 2001 he choreographed & performed a solo demo (with a mop and office chair) at several congresses and events throughout Europe.
His TV credits as performer and/or choreographer include Baby Father I & II, Casualty, Happiness, Auf Weidersehn Pet and the BBC Ident ( He was the big guy at the front in the white shirt!)

Since 2011 he has realised his love of comedy and performed Stand Up at The Edinburgh Fringe festival (2011, 2012)
I still have many new projects to run such as Liquida and teacher training courses.
It's all been possible through the support of my wife Felicity aka DJ Felicidad with whom I've been married to since 1994.

sprite-camden  Intermediate Instructor Moe Flex

Born in Somaliland, East Africa, Moe spent his childhood travelling.
Known for his bubbly, larger than life personality, he started to dance at the age of 4 mimicking Michael Jackson.
Within 6 months of starting salsa Moe won the UKA British Amateur Championships. In 2002 he won the UKA Threesome Championship.
Since then he has been building his profile often described as a rising star He has become an integral part of events and weekenders.
In 2006 Moe was voted British Cuban Salsa Teacher of the Year.
Moe has been voted UK Salsa Teacher of the year 2008.

sprite-camden  The Old Promo Video for Salsa Camden

Here is our Salsa Camden Promotional Video.
It's just under two minute long so please take a look.
I hope it shows the fun we have at Camden.

The film project was an in-house production filmed in the Spring of 2010
The track is an shortened version of Los Van Van's Temba Tumbe Y Timbe, a great track for dancing La Rueda to.

Thanks to everyone involved.
